April 09, 2009

There's plenty of fun stuff to do around town this weekend, including lot and lots of Easter events.  There are so many Easter events, in fact, that I've assigned them their own little heading.

Whatever you celebrate this weekend, whether it's Easter, Passover or simply spring, enjoy yourself!  And see you next week!

Animal Crackers by Wildlife Adventures - Port Discovery, 35 Market Place, Baltimore, 410-727-8120

Friday, 12-4 p.m.,
Building paper airplanes might prove tricky for little hands, but there's no reason why Mom and Dad can't help!  Build your awesome, super-flying plane, and then compete in the annual Paper Airplane Derby at 3 p.m.  Prizes will be awarded, and the show should be fun.  Come build your own paper airplane and compete in our annual Paper Airplane Derby at 3pm. Prizes will be awarded!  Event is free with paid admission.

Second Sundays - Leakin Park, 4921 Windsor Mill Road, Baltimore, 410-396-0440
Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Second Sundays are back, from now through November, and my four-year-old son could not be more delighted.  Ride the miniature trains, as often as you like (or, more accurately, as often as your kids like), as they make their journey around Leakin Park.  Special thanks to the folks at Cheasapeake and Allegheny Steam Preservation Society for maintaining and engineering the trains.

And now, for a round-up of Easter events:

Easter Egg Hunt - Pump It Up, 11515 Cronridge Drive, Suites J and K, Owings Mills, 410-356-9050

Easter Bunny Train Ride at the B&O Railroad Museum - B&O Railroad Museum, 901 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, 410-752-2490
Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Hop (snicker) on board and take a ride with the B&O Easter Bunny.  I've never seen the B&O Easter Bunny, but I'm betting that he wears an engineer's cap and suspenders.

Saturday, 2-3 p.m.
Spring--thank goodness--has finally sprung, and all kinds of plants and animals are emerging from hibernation.  Take a guided hike around the center, and see if you can find what's waking up.

Baby Loves Disco - Recher Theatre, 512 York Road, Towson, 410-337-7178
Sunday, 12-3 p.m. (Ages: Infant-adult)
Who would have thought in, say, the early eighties, that disco would keep coming back, again and again?  But here it is, in all of its strobe-lit, white-suited glory, for another generation to enjoy.  Be one of the first 100 families through the door and go home with a special goodie bag.

Oh, and Happy Spring, by the way!

Wrap up a Bit of Baltimore

December 16, 2008

So the playroom is stuffed to the gills with balls and wheels and odd plastic pieces, and you realize, with horror, that another heap of toys is coming, thanks to Santa or Hanukkah Harry, and you want to weep into your tea. Right? Because as much as you love the holidays, and as much as you delight in those beautiful smiles on your children's faces, you're kinda-sorta finished with all of the  Read more...

Limited Time Offers

November 17, 2008

Winter, much to my dismay, is definitely coming, and it's only a matter of weeks before some of favorite family-friendly venues shut down for the season. The pools, of course, are closed already, as are the theme parks, but it's not too late to catch a last glimpse of "summer" before the whole of Baltimore freezes over until springtime. Quickly now, before you hibernate, here's a little more  Read more...

When the Sun Comes Out: A Top Five List

October 17, 2008

Still, after a long, gloomy week of drizzle, I'm as eager as anyone to get back in the sunshine. So here, for your sun-worshipping pleasure, is a list of places to visit when the rain finally stops. One word of warning, though: some of these places might be a tad muddy,  Read more...

Elephants, Giraffes and Chimps, Oh My!

October 13, 2008

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore , as you may remember, had a bit of a difficult time last year. Financially drained, their accreditation threatened, the zoo faced some of its bleakest days. Fortunately, this year has gone much, much better, what with the much-heralded birth of an elephant and the subsequent surge of visitor traffic. The kids and I have always loved the zoo, even in the  Read more...
